Sushi Making Secrets

Sushi is one of the most delicious foods you can eat anywhere. Most of the time it is enjoyed in fine Japanese restaurants.

But sometimes a person wants to make sushi at home.  I should know.  I own a Sushi Restaurant Murrieta and get asked all the time by my customers. They always try to find out what the secret is to great sushi that they can make at home?

I always kid around and tell them it is impossible and they will have to always come to my restaurant. But seriously, if you are looking for great pieces of advice for great sushi you can make at home, pay attention.

First off, have a great time.  Remember, you are not trying to make this for a Sushi restaurant Menifee full of people. You more often than not are making it for friends and relatives.

Remember great tasting food doesn’t have too look great. So relax because you have to remember there will be a learning curve.

For the rice, remember it is going to be sticky. So if you do not want rice all over the place, wash your hands often.

Another great piece of advice is don’t try to make the world’s largest sushi. Yes everything tastes great.  But when you try and put too much ingredients into one roll it will be a disaster. You are going to have rolls that don’t roll up. You are going to have all the ingredients spilling all over the place because it is overstuffed.

Just do not do it.

Fourth piece of advice, be gentle.  Resist the temptation to use too much force. When you are actually making the Sushi, all you need to do is gently roll.  Too much pressure with your fingertips or hand and the rolls will come out looking funny or in odd shapes.

Final tip is for when you use knives. Obviously when making sushi, you will need small parts of fish.  Well to prevent tearing of the fish make sure you moisten your knife.  This allows you to cut into the knife evenly.  You will have nicer cuts of fish that you can put into the sushi roll.

There you go.  Follow these few steps and you will be making great sushi like at my Sushi Restaurant Hemet.

Making Sushi doesn’t have to be hard. It has to be fun and enjoyable, but more importantly delicious.

3 Types of Sushi To Make at Home

Sushi is a great traditional Japanese dish that practically everybody has heard of and more likely tasted it.  And if you are lucky, you have tasted at wonderful Sushi restaurant Temecula.

It is a great traditional dish that is usually made of rice, seaweed, and of course raw fish.

Now if you don’t like fish in the first place, of course you will not like sushi. But if the taste of seafood is something you love, then of course you will enjoy sushi.

Of course, most sushi is enjoyed in fine restaurants such as the one you can find at Sushi restaurant Lake Elsinore. You can taste and enjoy them in a Japanese style fast food restaurant.

Or you can enjoy them in more formal dining environments, like the one found at Sushi Restaurant Hemet.

Or the best way, you can eat to your heart’s content with the all you can eat style.

But if you are in an adventorous mood, you might even want to give it a go and make some at home.

Well here is a brief rundown of the 3 types of sushi you can make.

First, there is the Maki sushi.  It is the usual that you are used to that consists of fish/seafood with rice that is then wrapped in nori or seaweed. Most well known is the California roll of course

Now the Maki sushi does contain two different types within it.There is the Futomaki also known as the “fat maki” because you make it with 2 or more fillings of fish or seafood

Then there is the Hosomaki or “thin maki” that is made with only one filling of fish or seafood.  But it could also be a single vegetable as well.

The second type of sushi is called the Nigiri sushi. This is another crowd favorite type of sushi which is a thin slice of raw fish placed on top of a chunk of rice that is rectangular.  There is nothing
that wraps it up such as seaweed, like the Maki sushi.

Last but not least you have the Uramaki, which is the inside out fish as it is commonly referred to.It is known as the inside out because it is exactly that, a backwards version of the Maki because the rice is on the outside of the nori rather than the inside.  Also what is inside is the fish or seafood type of fare.

There you go.  3 wonderful types of sushi you can try your hand at making at home.

Of course, the best way to make this is to first try some at a local sushi restaurant so you can sample all 3 different styles and see how it is made and what the ingredients are.

So happy eating.
