Camden is one of London’s hidden jewels. It’s borough goes North from Covent Garden and Holborn through Euston and Kings Cross into the fashionable Camden Town area to the green and thriving Hampstead area.
Camden is prosperous quarter there are numerous pubs and restaurants that permit your dog to join you for a rest.
Camden is built on the what was Cantelowes manor. The manor was acquired through marriage in the 1700s by Sir Charles Pratt a politician and radical lawyer who later became the 1st Earl of Camden. He gave leases for fourteen hundred houses to be built in Camden in 1791.
In the early nineteenth century Regent’s Canal was built through Camden, running through the north of Camden Town. Regent’s canal is very well liked with cyclists and dog walkers. During the summer  boat trips are very popular. Right up to the 50s the canal barges were drawn by horses and the towropes etched into the handrails over the years and are still visible. There are still the canal ramps, not for canal boats, but to help the horses out of the canal. Macclesfield Bridge is the site where a barge with gunpowder blew up in the 1870s, London’s largest non war explosion. In the early days until the late 19th century it was not a fashionable area.
Camden Lock is a manually-operated working canal lock. Positioned near to it are many weekend street markets. These are celebrated and very popular, the many markets include Buck Street, Camden canal and Stables market as well as an indoor market – the Electric Ballroom. The markets sell everything under the sun, including, fashion, lifestyle, junk, books, antiques and strange items.
During the last couple of decades entertainment and artistic businesses have moved into the area. Due to the increased wealth in the borough restaurants have gone from strength to strength. One of the earliest major venues was the Roundhouse, originally a locomotive train engine house built in 1847, that had a number of uses until it was transformed into a music venue in the sixties. With a fresh re-launch in 2006.
Camden has numerous greens spaces for great dog walking, Regents Park, Primrose Hill, Kenwood Park, Parliament Hill and the large Hampstead Heath to name the well known ones, so a lot of London dog walkers are based here such as Camden Dog Walking.
The Camden Borough was created in the 1965  by amalgamating the London boroughs of Hampstead, St Pancreas and Holborn.
Camden has a wide ethnic mix and whilst on the whole prosperous, there are some less well off quarters.
Many  famous people lived in the borough, many with an artistic background,  that include the writers Charles Dickens, John Keats and Aldous Huxley, all types of politician from the politicians Benjamin Disraeli, Karl Marx, John Maynard Keynes and Frederick Engels. The artist Henry Moore and a bevy of actors and modern rock stars.

Do not just visit London

London is great as it contains so many different things to do. A personal favourite is the O2 stadium as it is the best place to see huge artists from around the world do their thing the whole country.Perhaps only second to Wembley.

There are many museums to enjoy in London. Two of the best that London has have got to be the Imperial War Museum and the British Museum.

The Tower Of London is famous for holding the crown jewels. Of course the Tower is most famous for housing prisoners that were once tortured and killed.

Sure London has some of the top places to visit if you are coming to England, from Big Ben to the Waxworks but it also has the busy streets, and the feel of a world capital, which doesn’t tend to feel that good. Is London just somewhere to go on one of those family days out?

London is brilliant for someone coming over to see a bit of Britain’s awsome history but show the current beauty of Britain, and that is of course, the countryside.

Wales is a fantastic place to see the real Britain. Of course cities such as Cardiff are busy but again that is one of Britain’s biggest cities, head just outside for a beautiful countryside stay in a cottage. Wales also has many other things to offer such as Abseiling, climbing, surfing, diving, fishing and golf. The Welsh also have many foods in which to try. Salt marsh lamb, Welsh black cattle and farmhouse cheeses are just some that you should seriously think about trying.

So if you are thinking about UK family holidays then instead of choosing London, Edinburgh or Dublin, why not give Wales a try?
