Cheap beach resort?

My mother and I would like to make a beach vacation this year, but on a budget. We do not really know where we go to beach, sun and as long as it (And it is in the U.S.). Any ideas for cheap (ish) beach resorts? I would be affordable behalf of special places or hotels that someone has been away and are happy to be with and that can on a budget.
