What do I need to know, when traveling to Cancun?

My husband and I are planning a trip to The Royal Cancun in Mexico in September 2009. None of have been on vacation. None of us flew. None of us have been out of the United States. Were pretty much stay put in question, and I'm always very anxious and feel about whelmed (or underwhelmed?) on our lack of knowledge and know what to expect! Any advice on everything including: airport travel, what to expect to leave the country; Travel in Mexico (weather there in September, what to pack) and The Royal of All-inclusive resort, we remain on track. Oh, and while there were expedia: Who uses it? What do you think? As You see, I need all the help I can get. Anything would be appreciated! Thank you in advance for anyone who answers!
